Rahman Qureshi says...
29th November 2001: Uhhh, very late update, I think I'm going to close this project. Move onto some new things; I'm currently designing some characters for a computer game, and I'd prefer to concentrate on that. I'd like to thank Keenspace for hosting this comic, it's been fun reading through it and I had big plans but for now consider it to be on a very long break. If you'd like me to email you when this project is started up again, then please drop me a line: kabukimusic@yahoo.com Finally, thanks to the 9 people who made regular stops in here; this project was for myself but I appreciate that you came back time and time again to read my little self-indulgence, and hopefully enjoyed it.
After I'm done with the computer game, I may be starting from scratch a new webcomic called Pugilists, so look out for that. It's just totally fighting, kinda like Dragonball Z, and my intention is for the comic to be as successful and despised by the anime community as the Akira Toriyama creation :D About the last comic, I know I can't draw cars but it was a very quick sketch, and Penny's speaking in ebonics because I missed out a word, it made me laugh so hard when I read it up on my site. It's been cool, though, thanks guys and girls, embrace your creative spirits whereever you go.
19th November 2001: Very ill last week, not a poor excuse, it's actually a very genuine condition. I'll have three comics up this week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It was either the cold or the flu but I'm feeling a lot better now that I'm wearing my father's anorak to work instead of my summer jacket. Health over fashion, any day. ;)
8th November 2001: Just a quick note that as of next week I'll be colouring in the eyes and hair of characters, they're starting to look very soulless to me...I just don't want to get into all the shading business because I don't have the time. Also BACKGROUNDS are making a comeback! Retro fashion returns with a vengeance. I hate the empty backgrounds of a few of my strips and really I need practice in scenery so in a week or two I shall start with the depth and perspectives again. ;)
5th November 2001: THERE'S A WHOLE WORLD OUT THERE! Yes, I know that you all realise the above sentence, but I've been VERY slow to catch on. I immersed myself in online worlds, I used to play a hell of a lot of Everquest and just two days ago I quit, cancelled my account. In some ways, I feel somewhat guilty over quitting because I'm quitting for the wrong reasons...I saw a real life picture of a lady who played a high elf maiden, and saw her two other pals who played in the same guild as me, and the immediate reaction was a vain 'bleugh'. I surprised myself with how shallow my reaction was, and it was really unrealistic to expect people you meet in-game to look the way they do in real life, but I was so engrossed in this game that my judgement was clouded. Anyway, the most fun that I've derived from Everquest is quitting. I called a couple of my pals over to meet me and there I handed them pretty much all of my stuff, although I kept a breastplate and trousers because I didn't want to quit naked (even though it is a game, one should still retain a sense of dignity). If anyone plays on the Cazic Thule server, then look out for Breakex, Carialle, Moksurea and Kraahl, they are the four best people I have met on that server and were genuine friends who had interesting things to say, I love you guys, I loved your company, I loved playing with you. Outside of that circle of friends, a lot of conversations I'd overhear were cringeworthy talk-about-the-stats-of-my-weapons conversations, which were akin to hearing rednecks talk about their shotguns with psychotic gleams in their eyes. Anyway, I used to play a troll shadowknight called 'Darkfeather'...why does that name sound familiar? ;)
Anyway, since Friday I've been doing some darn cool things that I'll detail in the next few updates.
Sorry for the long story if it bored you. Oh yeah, a comic for each weekday starting next Monday. This week will stick with Monday, Wednesday and Friday updates, though.
31st October 2001: I've been going steady with this strip like it was a faithful girlfriend. It's just that these little author notes at the bottom don't really get updated much because I tend to speak through my comics (that sounds so pretentious, and I love it!). Anyway, linkies: Meridian Game Music Player - Okay, it's another from the overclocked stable of links, but that site is what's keeping me most amused when I'm surfing the web. I downloaded the player and the Legend of the Mystical Ninja music files and I'm having a pentatonic audio treat. A few SNES Castlevania tunes crept in there as well, as did Chrono Trigger, but out of them all I'm LOVING the Legend of the Mystical Ninja ones the most. They make me feel like I'm at some weird Japanese parade. Oh yeah, this music player is a bit buggy and causes Windows '98 (2nd Edition) to freeze very infrequently if I don't shut it down soon after hearing it pause unnecessarily.
I'll try updating this bottom bit more frequently, as well. I've noticed a bunch of webcomics never update their comics as promised but keep putting up the 'rants' (for want of a better word); I guess I'm just doing the opposite. The comic comes before my going-nowhere soliloques.
19th October 2001: Friday strip's up on time as you can see, but never mind that, I wanted to share a link or two, or however many I end up posting, with you: DJ Pretzel's Overclocked Remix - this guy knows good game music remixes when he hears them...well, some of them are pretty poor, but he's culminated an amazing collection of awesome mp3s to download from different remixers. Currently I'm listening to a Koudelka remix that just embodies easternness, a funky little Lemmings remix and a few meditative remixes of Chrono Trigger music. Great stuff.
Also, as hero of the underdogs, I've been trawling through the less well exposed webcomics out there. Sure, we all know of PvP, MegaTokyo, Winter and so on, but what about my peers? The dirty, grimy little cartoonists struggling to be noticed? Here's one for you: Eat The Roses - It's a well-drawn spy flick, with anime influences (surprise surprise). You know, I don't think I'm jumping on the anime bandwagon because I've been drawing in this style way before I knew what the Interweb, the Highway Technology...the...this darn thing we're using was.
17th October 2001: As you can see, the new comic style is up, it shall be updated 3 times a week, that is, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday until I get the time to give more regular updates. If you know webcomics, then you'll know that this schedule puts me in a direct ratings war with most other webcomics ;;O.O Wish me luck as I battle the monopolies of webcomics in an underground effort similar to the French resistance, except without as much garlic.
10th October 2001: Okay, so the experiment is over. I managed to perform 27 days in a row of artwork and maintain a consistent schedule. I certainly hope you all enjoyed the comic while it lasted in its previous format. As you can see by the most recent addition, I've upped the quality of art as a little taster of what the new format will follow. I don't want to include any 'spoilers', but this comic is going to radically shift next Monday. Till then I'm taking a brief hiatus so don't disturb me as I snooze on this porch with a sombrero dipped over my face and a poncho keeping me warm through the twilight. Email me with feedback, I'll post the good, the bad and the ugly up here during the week so that those of you bored enough to come here while the comic isn't being updated can see what other readers think of my site. And for the inevitable critics, your brutally harsh putdowns are also accepted graciously; just please expect swear-words to be editted.
Ah, one other thing...my email address: kabukimusic@yahoo.com
